A Lodge in Woodfords Corner Since 1886.
Fraternity Lodge No. 6 began in Woodfords Corner in 1886. Since then, its members have established a hall, kept its traditions, and carried the work of Odd Fellowship forward through generations of change.
1886
Fraternity Lodge No. 6 Is Instituted
On March 29, 1886, Grand Master R. B. Capen instituted Fraternity Lodge No. 6 at Knights of Pythias Hall in Woodfords Corner. The lodge’s first Noble Grand was Joseph Sargent Dunham.
1897
The Odd Fellows Block Is Built
A new four-story Odd Fellows Block was built at the center of Woodfords Corner. Designed by Francis H. Fassett and Edward F. Fassett, the red-brick building and its clock tower became a landmark at the intersection of Forest Avenue, Woodford Street, and Deering Avenue.
1898
The Lodge Hall Is Dedicated
On January 3, 1898, Fraternity Lodge No. 6 dedicated its new lodge hall. Much of the original furnishings from that dedication remain in use by the lodge today.
Early 1900s
The Building Grows With the Neighborhood
An addition was made early in the life of the building. The Odd Fellows Block served not only as a lodge home, but also as a place for offices, businesses, and other gathering spaces in Woodfords Corner.
Today
The Work Continues
Fraternity Lodge No. 6 continues to meet in the Odd Fellows Block. Members care for the hall, preserve its history, and continue the practice of Friendship, Love, and Truth in Portland.
